From a business standpoint, Asus designers took an interesting tack in creating the MeMo Pad Smart 10 tablet: This device feels like a mock of the Google Nexus 7 but at 10” size. Indeed, this tablet a nice step up from the Nexus 7 at a reasonable price, but may not steal away users already armed with a bigger-sized device.

Since the MeMo Pad Smart 10 is essentially a 7” tablet on steroids, the specs are generally comparable to the expected norms of the smaller size. The processor is a fairly standard Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core running on 1 GB of RAM; one may note these are identical to the Nexus 7’s specs in this area. This MeMo Pad adds a second camera typically unavailable on a 7” device, but with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, the display is unimpressive for a tablet this size. A plus here are the inclusion of Micro USB, Micro-HDMI and micro SD card ports.

Thanks to these features, the Pad Smart is still a relatively 1.3 pounds heavy, a fairly serious drawback given the lack of more impressive touchscreen – for a fraction of a pound more, the impressive iPad with retina display may be had.
