Close but no cigar - that’s the shortest possible verdict on the Dell Streak 7 tablet. Specifically speaking, the many nice features of the Streak 7 are ultimately undermined by two serious shortcomings, namely the incredibly short battery life and the seriously low-resolution screen.

The list of specs on the Dell Streak 7 is impressive and performance lives up to the billing in most areas. Powered by a 1GHz Tegra T20 microprocessor and with an Android 2.2 operating system (or even Android Honeycomb in later editions), the Dell Streak 7 also includes a 1.3 megapixel camera; 16 GB of internal memory; ports for SD and SIM cards, PDMI; and, in North America, connectivity to T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ system.

Even more admirable is that Dell has streamlined this tablet to about the same dimensions and build as the tiny Streak 5, reducing the weight on the Streak 7 to a featherweight 0.9 pounds (0.4 kilograms). As is typical, Dell has included some interesting software on the Streak 7 tablet, including widgets for Kindle, Slacker Radio, and games including one educational children’s program, among others. For American users, also installed are T-Mobile’s Qik Video Chat and TV apps.
