Poll: 46% of Americans Believe Tablet PCs Will Kill Laptops

Tablets vs notebooks

In an extensive survey of some 1,155 Americans taken last week by pollsters Poll Position, people’s perception of the tablet PC’s future was gleaned with some surprising results shown. Some findings revealed in the survey included the following.

  • About 46% of respondents believe that tablet PCs will eventually replace laptops altogether, while 35% disagree that such a replacement will not happen. A big 20% stated they had no opinion.

  • Interestingly, the 45-to-64 age group showed the firmest belief in the tablet PC’s eventual obsolescence: Only 25% belief that laptops and notebooks will not be eliminated due to tablets. Among the 18-to-29 year-olds, almost 49% stated that they believed tablets would not cause the extinction of mobile PCs. 37% of the 30-to-44s and 30% of the 45-to-64s opined that tablet PCs would not kill off laptops and notebooks.

  • Finally, 53% of men stated that tablets would eventually replace notebooks, with 39% of female respondents taking this viewpoint.
