• 2012 BEST TABLET CAR MOUNT

Are you often dealing with restless passengers in the backseat? Any one of the top three nominees can ease the situation. The one drawback to the Woodford Designs car mount is that it only works with the Original FridgePad. As for the Snugg design, perhaps it should have been named the struggle. But once the user fits both the case and tablet inside, it'll perform well on the road. In the end, it was easy to give the Golden Case award to TouCoul cases. The CoulVue was the best car mount in 2012, not only because it's easy to use, but mainly it’s the most functional car headrest mount of 'em all.

  • 2012 BEST TABLET STAND IN A FOLIO CASE

Much like the auto sleep/wake function, an integrated stand is a must have feature in any folio case. And just about all available designs do indeed have one. At minimum, the design offers one angle for typing and one for viewing in landscape format. And there are many that provide multiple angle support for landscape viewing modes. In our opinion, the best stand features support both formats. And that is exactly what the two top nominees do provide. Plain and simple, the M-Edge case wins the 2012 best stand in a folio case award because it is the strongest and sturdiest design.

  • 2012 BEST ECO-FRIENDLY TABLET CASE

Eco-Friendly cases made a strong push towards the later part of 2012, so much so, that we felt inclined to hand out an award to the best design. All featured nominees are not simply made for appealing to the environmentally conscious. They are a smart, sensible choice for any iPad or 9” tablet user. Could Bluelounge be the first to take home two awards this year? Unfortunately, no. That’s not to say their Sleeve, or even the Evouni Non-Tear Envelope aren’t worthy of the distinction. We ultimately decided to award the best eco-friendly case Golden Case to the Papernomad Sleeve, mainly because its exterior is a blank canvas that eagerly awaits to tell the user’s story.

  • 2012 BEST FAUX-LEATHER TABLET CASE

Not everyone has the means to spoil their tablet. In fact, many of us here at Tablet2Cases can’t do the same for our cherished devices. Which is why we felt it equally important to hand out a golden case award to the best faux-leather case of 2012. At first, this seemed to be a difficult decision to make given that a very large percentage of tablet cases incorporate PU leather. In many instances, the case either simply looked or felt like real leather, but not simultaneously both together. Mareware cases are certainly nice, but ultimately, LionCase tablet cases were most deserving of this award because all user senses respond well when handling them.

When it comes to pampering your tablet, really, one can’t go wrong by choosing a design made by any one of the top three nominees. Beyza Cases and Mapi Cases are exquisite designs that are just as functional as they are smart & professional-looking. But Piel Frama designs were the best leather cases in 2012 because their soft, supple padded leather offers the most superb, comfortable feel in the hand. More specifically, the Cinema Style model stands out amongst all Piel Frama tablet cases. This one features a superior stand design that supports multiple angles for tablet viewing pleasure.

  • 2012 BEST BOOK TABLET CASE

This decision was tough because there are so many quality manufacturers and models. Powis Parker are great for providing a lot of function (more than the average) at a reasonable price. But compared to its main competitors that incorporate traditional binding techniques, Powis cases seem more like a paperback version of book-style cases. DODOcase, Germanmade and Portenzo tablet cases are all exquisitely hand-crafted designs with wood frames and customized hard covers. We inevitably chose the Portenzo Wingtip model as the best book case of 2012 because it's the most functional option for the money.

Both the Andres Industries and Lifedge cases are excellent defenders of the iPad, but the drawback is they are each high-end priced to equal their designs for applied use in the most extreme situations. The best waterproof case in 2012 goes to DryCASE cases because they are the most economical cost-efficient choice for protecting tablets during typical recreational water sports and outdoor play.

  • 2012 BEST TABLET BACK PROTECTOR

In our opinion, the case had to show something extra in order to be nominated for this award. Of all the finalists, the Trident Case sticks to the case-style purpose yet borders on performing more like rugged & tough case. In both the ZeroChroma and MokiToki case designs, the emphasis is more on function than shielding half of the tablet against bumps and scratches. Ultimately the MokiToki R* Case was chosen the best back protector in 2012 because of its range of versatile tablet mounting uses while also performing the basic back protector duties in hand.

  • 2012 BEST TABLET SLEEVE

Not only was it difficult to select the nominees, but also in determining the award winner. Overall rating alone would have made it easy for us to hand the award to the M-Edge Recon - but is it a sleeve or a folio? We couldn’t decide. The sleeves by Bluelounge and Papernomad are certainly impressive choices. But if the true purpose of a sleeve is to keep the gadget safe from harm, then the Ultimate Sleeve by WaterField Designs emerges as the best tablet sleeve in 2012. Not only does this design provide rugged & tough protection, it looks pretty damn sharp too!
