Overview

Andres Industries has created this rugged and tough watertight impact proof case for fitting the iPad 2 or iPad 3. It has an industrial-looking design with external dimensions measuring at 10.5 x 8.3 x 1 inches. It is predominantly made of hard plastic, military-grade material, and incorporates rubber plugs for all device controls and features, as well as plastic hinge-clips to seal the case completely watertight .

What I like about this design is that the screen cover remains connected by a bottom hinge, making the process of fitting and removing the iPad easier than other cases with a completely detachable cover. Thankfully, A.I. placed a warning tag on the inside to ensure proper fitting, because my immediate instinct was to insert the device into the bottom shell of the case body. The tablet must be placed into the upper shell first (screen cover side), fitting between 8 small foam pads that cushion the sides, and once its lowered into the bottom half of the case, six larger foam pads will cushion its backside. The flexible screen display foil is also watertight, but considering the case’s intended purpose, I would be more impressed if the shield were resistant to glare as well.

The bottom of the case features four rubber feet to prevent slipping on any surface, and can be removed/replaced with metal holders for connecting a shoulder or hand strap (sold separately). The backside also includes 4 brass nuts for compatible use with a RAM 202 mount (sold separately) on boats, cars, trucks, military and/or recreational vehicles. Additional accessory kits include plug and/or screen foil replacements, a watertight USB connector cable, and a quick snapper mount that allows the case to be easily removed without the use of tools.

4.5	Functionality The biggest issue with the case is having to open the lid in order to switch the iPad on/off. Other than that, all controls and features are easily accessible, including both front and rear-facing cameras. The speaker port is designed to flow the sound toward the user, which is nice.
5.0	Protection “Watertight, impact proof, unbeatable” is the brand claim. Is it watertight? Absolutely! And, it floats too. Impact proof? For complying with US military/international protection standards, each AI case passes the test of being dropped 26 times from a height of 122cm onto a concrete floor. Unbeatable? Though this is obviously up for debate, few other rugged and tough cases out there can compare or surpass this one.
5.0	Quality The interior foam pads and plastic extensions for touching the buttons/controls can easily detach when inserting/removing the tablet. But replacement kits are available. The case has passed both US military and international protection standard tests, so this is one brand you can trust.
2.5	Value A design that can protect your tablet during serious work and serious play, in some of the most extreme weather conditions and unlikeliest of scenarios, certainly deserves a serious price tag. Unfortunately that cost doesn't exactly bode well for the average consumer.
4.3	Overall: Great Sure, there are some more affordable rugged and tough cases to be had. But few can live up and/or match the Andres Industries case standards and overall performance. This is the best case scenario for the iPad user who seeks the ultimate in watertight and impact proof protection.
