Like a chic designer purse, “The Clutch” is a leather portfolio case for holding a cell phone, cash and coins, business and credit cards, pens, keys, lip-gloss, sunglasses, etc. But, it can also hold the iPad2, and double as a tablet stand … Can your pocketbook do that?

Overview
Fueled by their commitment to design and deliver quality leather tablet cases that are chic, useful and affordable, Happy Owl Studio introduces this attractive tablet case for ladies . Also available in red, I like this version, its black leather and purple exterior stitching/interior lining compliment each other very well. The case is designed as a two-piece organizer, one half being a compartment for the iPad 2, and the other a zippered tablet case with cell phone pocket, card holder, pen loops and two extra pockets with zippers for storing all kinds of stuff.

Opening like a book journal, the device slides into a nice, snug-fitting leather bezel frame with small Velcro-tab fastener. Once enclosed, the case is about 1 ½ inch thick and already feels a little heavy before adding any items to the organizer pouch. But no matter how much bulk/weight, the flawless design of the adjustable shoulder strap with swivel-hinge clasps will always allow you to carry it gracefully. The key is the placement of the D-rings, one on each side of the case for proper weight distribution and better overall balance (I have seen this mistake made many times before, so it’s nice to finally see someone get it right.)
Perhaps the only time bulkiness may be an issue is during tablet stand use. An overstuffed organizer pouch can prevent the case from laying perfectly flat for a comfortable typing angle. But before you even reach that point, you might struggle to set it up. The strap needs to be pulled through the loop and refastened to the button, a task that is a bit difficult for even a nimble-fingered person like myself. Once the stand feature is ready, it works great (Even without any extra items in the pouch to help keep it weighted down.) Only half the speaker grill sticks out of the cutout, but I didn’t notice any muzzled sound. As for the other cutouts, all the iPad2’s ports, buttons and camera align perfectly. I almost missed it, but there is also a magnet underneath the padded interior fold for supporting your device’s sleep/wake feature.
