The folks at Cooper Cases are apparently quite proud of this tablet folio case: After all, it’s described as both “Infinite” and “Universal” in its lofty name. And in a few aspects, Cooper’s pride may be justified. Unfortunately, too many generic features (including the look) detract from the overall product.
Cooper Kai Skel Apple iPad 2 Bluetooth Keyboard Clamshell Notebook Case in Silver
Opportunity doesn’t knock at your door only once. Wishing you had chosen a more functional MacBook? This tablet keyboard case won’t make you regret purchasing the iPad 2. Wishing you had enough money to shell out for the original Clamcase? The Cooper Kai Skel is your more budget-friendly solution.
Pros
- Macbook look-a-like design
- Auto sleep/wake function
- 13 shortcut keys
- Simultaneous iPad & keyboard charging
- Multiple display angles
Cons
- No mechanism for secure closure
- Polycarbonate (plastic) shell
- One drop could spell disaster
Overview
Minus the carbon fiber material and 360 degree tablet stand display, the Cooper Kai Skel is similar to the Original Clamcase, in that the iPad 2 is instantly in laptop mode with a simple flip of the lid. The design is made of hard plastic, with black Chiclet keys and a brushed aluminum-like surface that will give your device the appearance of a MacBook. There is even a circular cutout on the lid for the Apple insignia to show through, minus the glowing effect once the tablet is powered on.

| Design: N/A | |
| 4.0 | Functionality: Okay, so it doesn’t literally convert your New iPad 3 into a MacBook, but like any keyboard case, this is as close as your device can get to the functioning power of a laptop. The screen display is a bit bouncy, but the four rubber tabs on the case bottom do work well to prevent slipping/sliding on a level surface. The design allows for 2-3 display angles, as well as clear access to all iPad 3 controls and features, including front/rear-facing cameras. |
| 3.5 | Protection: Your tablet is safe from knocks, bumps and scratches, but just knock on wood that you don’t drop it! |
| 2.5 | Quality: The aluminum-effect surface is certainly MacBook-like deceptive, but unfortunately the cheap plastic feel won’t fool you into believing that it’s Apple brand quality. My biggest concern? The warning label on the back that reads, “Do not drop!” |
| 3.0 | Value: $59.95 is about what I'd expect to pay for this kind of quality, and I would be happy to pay it for this type of case-style design that won’t increase the iPad 2's bulk like many of other keyboard cases can. |
| 3.3 | Overall: Mediocre Opportunity is knocking and I think it’s safe to open your door (and your wallet) to welcome the Cooper Kai Skel Bluetooth Keyboard Clamshell Notebook case in. (The name alone is a mouthful, just wait till you get a load of its function) |
