The folks at Cooper Cases are apparently quite proud of this tablet folio case: After all, it’s described as both “Infinite” and “Universal” in its lofty name. And in a few aspects, Cooper’s pride may be justified. Unfortunately, too many generic features (including the look) detract from the overall product.
Macally Apple iPad 2 BookStand2 Folio Case in Black
Not many cases come my way that are such a great style match to the iPad 2 as is the black Bookstand2 by Macally. The smooth, sleek black design compliments and enhances the Apple aesthetic. The Bookstand2 is a folio-style case that not only gives you a useful video-watching stand but also tough protection on the front and back of your iPad 2.
- Keeps the Apple iPad 2 design
- Smooth and durable outside
- Incredibly thin
- Awkward viewing angle
- Magnets could utilize sleep/awake function
- Edges are exposed on most sides
Macally’s black Bookstand2 is simple but full of style. Custom fit to the iPad 2, the Bookstand2 is a sleek folio case & stand combo. The outside is a smooth rubberized material and the inside has a nice microfiber suede—the combo keeps the case lightweight but protective. I like how simply the iPad 2 snaps into place and how precise the cut out is for the rear camera. For using the stand, simply fold back the front cover like an Apple Smartcover. Plus, it has integrated magnets in the cover to keep the case fully closed when not being used. This is a great feature that won’t get in the way of the Apple design. At a great price, the Bookstand2 is definitely worth checking out.
- The Macally BookStand2 works well with your iPad 2
- This case functions also as a viewing stand
- Functions as a protective travel case, as well as a viewing stand to improve typing and viewing comfort
- Protects your iPad against dust and scratches
- Form fitting protective case for maximum protection
- Open to all connections and controls
The biggest problem here is that the stand doesn’t do what it is supposed to: prop up the Apple iPad for watching & typing. You can try to (more or less) watch movies with the stand but it is not stable at all.
The tablet is exposed on the side edge next to the volume rocker, which might get dinged up over time. On the top, the tablet is fully exposed so just make sure to keep an eye out. There is some exposed edge on the bottom, but this is good because it doesn’t muffle the sound.
The materials are good quality but lack a long-lasting feel as is the same case with other Macally products. But it keeps the price down!
For $35, this folio has an amazing value compared with other folios—good protection and nice style. Unfortunately the dysfunctional stand significantly brings the value down.
Excellent value for a useful product by a reputable brand. The Bookstand2 you get both a case and a stand. There are some serious drawbacks though, mainly that the stand function does not work for typing and is not sturdy for watching videos. If you only need a case, then this will work!
