Overview

This folio tablet case incorporates a polycarbonate shell, a soft padded canvas exterior and a rich microfiber interior, which combine to provide the iPad full-body protection against bumps, dings, shocks, scratches, and a few minor accidental drops in between.

The original model was designed with cover latch that clipped on to the side of the rear-shell, an action that did not allow for easy opening/closing of the case. The new “Canvas” has a self-adhesive cover that functions more swiftly, and I also applaud SwitchEasy for not forgetting to include a sleep/wake magnet this time around.

The left side of the shell is attached to the canvas overlay by a strip of Velcro. So to set up the stand feature , simply detach it from this mechanism by pulling-up and then angle it to fit in one of three groves on the inside of the cover. The groves are quite deep in order to keep the device stable for browsing and viewing in landscape format. My tablet was a little bouncy when I pressed the screen, however I think this will not be an issue if the binding and cover-fold loosen with age. Separate from this grey design, the “Canvas” is also available in black, brown, or red.

4.0	Functionality: Perhaps because the binding/fold are new and stiff, but during use of the stand feature my tablet was a bit ‘springy’ when I pressed apps on its screen. In addition to having three media angles, the design includes a magnet to sleep/wake the iPad, and gives you clear access to its power switch, volume rocker, audio-jack, USB port and rear-facing camera.
4.5	Protection: Its aesthetic may be a bit lackluster, but the “Canvas” has a water-resistant coating and offers complete protection against the most common threats so that your device can maintain its own luster. Although not robust enough to consistently protect against all drops/impacts, I give it an ‘amazing’ rating because the package also includes a screen protector with an installation and cleaning kit.
4.5	Quality: The special coating makes it feel a tad slick, but the canvas material is nicely padded and comfortable to hold. While it may not offer the most secure grip for some fingers to grasp, this case feels very solid in my hands thanks to well-constructed design that should prove to be very durable.
4.0	Value: The $49.99 price tag is a few dollars more than the average tablet folio case of comparable function and quality, but the “Canvas” is still a good value for the above-average protection it provides.
