As the name belies, waterproof cases are primarily designed to be ideal for any tablet owner who finds him- or herself using the device in humid or beach-side climates. These tablet cases are specifically designed to keep out moisture while also offering some above-quality protection against dust and dirt.

While many cases are touted as water-resistant, waterproof tablet cases are distinguished by their added layer of defense in the form of vacuum sealing. Some specifically-designed waterproof tablet cases include a small hand pump – put the tablet into the case and use the hand pump to remove unnecessary air (and thus unwanted humidity). This creates a vacuum-packed sort of environment, effectively sealing in the tablet against the elements. The waterproofing technology even allows the user to submerge the tablet under water, though one probably never needs such extreme measures.

Waterproof tablet cases are typically made of some sort of silicone, plastic or other flexible polymer materials. This provides an additional benefit in transparency so that the waterproof covering may remain in place during active use. Holes for ports and jacks are typically not provided, however, as that would compromise the water seals.
