The best news about the Craig tablet PC – or, by its full name, the Craig CMP 738a Touchscreen Android Tablet – is its crazy low price. Going for as low as $99, it’s almost hard to believe this device includes the Android 2.1 operating system, although the lack of some key features is predictable for such a budget tablet.

Designed to serve the most basic functions the tablet user might want, i.e. web browsing, ebook reading, and audio/visual playback, the Craig CMP 738a naturally does not include any sort of video camera or multi-touch capability on its resistive 7” screen. One puzzling non-inclusion is that the Craig doesn’t allow for playing flash videos within the browser, the user is forced to run the internal player for such.

The list of specs may impress users, though – again especially at the price. The Craig tablet includes a 700MHz ARM 9 microprocessor, 4 GB of embedded memory, an 802.11 b/g WiFi connection, accelerometer (quite a novelty in stripped-down tablets), plus ports for mini HDMI, mini USB and USB. The CMP 738a is also 3G-ready.

Sure, the Craig CMP 738a review won’t wow too many users in terms of high-power functioning, but measured against the low price, this is quite simply one of the more difficult tablet PCs to beat on the market. It’s hard to imagine that any manufacturer could beat the feature-to-price ratio offered in the Craig tablet.
