Velocity Micro has released a pair of tablet PCs geared for the low to mid-range budget; the Cruz T410 is the larger of the duo, with most features reproduced in Velocity Micro’s brother product, the T408 . Aside from the $80 more you’ll pay (the T408 has a suggested retail price of just under $200), the sole significant difference in the Cruz T410 is size.

The Velocity Micro Cruz T410 runs on a 1 GHz Cortex A8 microprocessor with the Google Android 2.3 operating system in place. Connectivity is provided by 802.11 WiFi only, while the pre-installed software suite is fairly impressively stocked with items such as QuickOffice, Adobe Flash Player 10.3, Amazon Kindle for Android, Angry Birds Rio and a quick link to the Amazon Appstore.

Though internal storage space is a dismal 4 GB, Velocity Micro was kind enough to supply micro SD and mini-USB ports to beef up the memory quite a bit. The Cruz T410 includes a camera at front which may be used for photos or video calling, but is truly nothing too notable.

In contrast, best of all – and a serious plus at the $300 mark – is the Cruz T410’s highly responsive touchscreen: In terms of plastic touchscreens, this one may be tops. Velocity Micro has promised “all the look and feel of a premium Android tablet” for the T410, and in the screen, we see both the effect of producing a cheaper device and the company making up for the shortcomings.

For those considering a budget tablet PC, the Velocity Micro Cruz T410 is a viable option overall. The T410 succeeds with passable marks (if not flying colors) in most areas and should satisfy the casual user.
