New Details Surface on Sony S1 & S2 Tablets

Sony S1/S2 release information

Sony is expected to launch its new tablets right before the IFA 2011 in Berlin that is scheduled for Sep 2-7. That's also when the company will announce the official names for the tablets. Sources say it will be similar to the current S1/S2 acronyms.

Rumour has it Sony S1 will come with a full-sized SD memory card reader, will feature a 9.4in IPS display with TruBlack & Bravia display technologies and will be available in 4 versions:

  • 16GB Wi-Fi only

  • 16GB Wi-Fi and 3G

  • 32GB Wi-Fi

  • 32GB Wi-Fi and 3G

The Sony S2 tablet will come in both 16GB and 32GB variants that have both Wi-Fi and 3G

Those desiring more capacity will be pleased to know that the S1 tablet has a full-size SD memory card reader onboard for additional storage.
Sony aims to market the S1 as a tablet for the home, for several reasons, including PS3 connectivity (DLNA and possible remote play/remote keyboard), and the previously announced onboard infrared remote feature, which allows the tablet to control TVs, Blu-ray players, and other devices.
