Moshi VersaCover Apple iPad Air Origami Folio

A couple of practical yet interesting ideas come to fruition in the Moshi VersaCover folio case for the Apple iPad Air. The concept is simple enough: Combine a simple origami-style folding front cover with an unobtrusive tablet shell and voilá! A brand new folio case that covers the iPad Air nicely while maintaining seriously light weight and offering lots of display possibilities for viewing.
Editor's Rating
For tablet shells, Tablet2Cases is generally fond of the transparent/translucent look for tablet shells, so let’s start with this rear piece of the Moshi VersaCover: It’s pretty standard stuff crafted from hard see-through plastic, designed to offer the basic back protection while staying light weight. Tick off these two boxes, then. But Moshi didn’t call this tablet *case* the VersaCover for nothing: Attached to this shell is a microfiber origami-style cover. As in the best origami cases, the auto sleep/wake function magnet also serves to hold the tri-fold cover in place. The VersaCover’s front piece is flexible enough to provide three angles each in both landscape and portrait modes. Combining two pieces as such implies two things: That the VersaCover might be more properly described as the Versa Origami Cover Plus Shell rather than as a folio case, and that much of this accessory’s ultimate quality will come down to the hinge connecting the two bits. As for the latter, the microfiber cover is essentially adhered onto the hard plastic shell; one could detach the pieces after quite a bit of serious abuse but in normal use, the whole VersaCover should certainly stay together.
Pros
- Seriously lightweight; easily carried
- Stable multi-angle origami-style stand
- Several colors available
Overall: OKAY
The combination in the Moshi VersaCover features a lot of standards blended together. We can particularly recommend this folio case for video-first users of the iPad Air thanks to its truly multi-angle functionality, and we dig the range of colors available. In all, a solid accessory but nothing that truly wows.
