Super Fast Chips, Android 4.0 Power Forthcoming Intel Tablets

Though not even branded yet, the forthcoming Intel tablet PCs are already among the most anticipated product releases for 2012. A few of the tablet’s specs are listed below, and yesterday a few interesting details on the next-generation chip platform powering the PC device were leaked.

The processor is a 32nm chip currently named “Medfield” and was produced by Intel’s newly-formed Mobile and Communications division. The technology is meant to compete in terms of performance with the Apple A-Series, NVIDIA Tegra, Qualcomm, Samsung’s Exynos, TI OMAP and the like; in fact, according to techie website VR-Zone, the 1.6 GHz Medfield processor well outperformed the above-listed and more. Good thing, because the Intel tablets will be running the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The bad news: almost as surprising as the Intel tablet’s reported performance is the massive energy consumption required.

Some known specs on the flagship Intel tablet PC are as follows.

• 10.1” screen, 1280 x 800-pixel resolution


• WLAN, Bluetooth connectivity


• micro SD card port

With these specs, the Intel tablet PC would fit in any of the available 11” tablet cases.
