Tablet Cases or Underwear? Angry Alex Knows What to Choose

Angry Alex week 20

The spring is finally coming into full force, sending a wave of crazy thinking through tablet accessories makers’ minds. Last week we looked at various tablet designer cases, and this week there are plenty to mock too. I don’t know what drives people to buy these items for 2-3 times more than the tablet’s price itself, but there’s a huge market for them and you’d think designers would spend some extra time making them nicer, think again.

Take a look at this Marc Jacobs Animal Coated Tablet Sleeve. It’s not even genuine leather, it’s the ordinary neoprene, which is nice and durable, but not quite designer material. The tablet sleeve has no extras whatsoever, there’s a nice and sturdy zipper lock, but that’s it. Oh, there is, however, a large print of your favorite animal, not the most accurate depiction if you ask me.

The Lace-Print Mini iPad Hard Case from Dolce & Gabbana comes with a very unique design print on the back. But I think I’ve already seen this print, on my girlfriend’s bra and panties. Well, nothing wrong with putting it on a tablet shell, but I’d rather stick to underwear when it comes to lace. Otherwise the case is a simplest shell, with decent protection and full access to all ports and buttons.

Another interesting creation is the BIC Case from GermanMade. While this portfolio tablet case is perfect for business, it’s a little bulky in my opinion. Sure the wooden frame protects the tablet fine, but it also adds unnecessary weight. There’s a bunch of pockets and slots, as well as stylus holders and a heavy-duty zipper lock. The whole thing looks like a large telephone book, and will certainly not fit inside my slim laptop bag.

The same GermanMade have managed to change my mind about them in the scape of 2 days. The DIN-Bag is a perfect business case big enough to fit a laptop and a tablet simultaneously, but not looking like a wheeler baggage. The genuine leather">leather construction adds to the luxurious design, and so do the small, but useful features: handles, slots, zipper lock.

It might be not so interesting to all of you Android fans out there, but Apple have just sold their 500 millionth iPhone. That’s right half a billion devices from a single brand, which only offers 1 smartphone model, well 2 now, but still. The iPhone was launched in 2007, and the upcoming launch of the iPhone 6 is expected to drive that figure even closer to 1 billion milestone.
