The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7” is an example of the cream rising to the top: This one is now one of the world’s most popular tablets – and most likely the most popular non-Apple variety. The useful embedded apps for phone use and reasonable price are worthy draws for would-be tablet buyers in a product that surely worries the brain trusts at Apple, Sony, Toshiba, etc. etc.

Disadvantages first: Really the main problems with the Galaxy Tab 7” against the competition are the unfortunately low resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and the 8 GB of internal storage. Since Samsung seemingly designed this device as nearly a hybrid phone/tablet hybrid, these are areas in which the targeted users won’t mind giving up a few elements from the highest-tech end of the spectrum – particularly if a few bucks are saved while doing so. Other users may be advised to consider other models.

Helping memory matters a bit are the opportunity to increase to up to 64 GB with micro SD cards and Samsung’s providing of some 50 GB in free Dropbox storage out of the box. Also listed among the freebies is credit (over $300 worth, according to PR material) with Hulu Plus, Google Play and Boingo.

Other specs make the Galaxy Tab 7” impressive enough so that its status as a market leader is understandable. The 1.2 GHz dual-core processor certainly works well at this size, two cameras take decent pictures (though that auto-focus “feature” should be rethought) and an IR blaster allowing the tablet to work with other devices is included – all the better for compatibility with other Samsung electronics.

Someday we’ll surely see Samsung launch a “Galaxy Tab 4” line of tablets and devices, but until then, we can safely recommend checking out this highly popular product.
