While it is not quite a replica of the Tron Legacy Light Suits, it does look like it comes from the future. The Logitech Tablet Keyboard for iPad 1, iPad 2 and iPad 3 is here to ring in the new millennium with its standalone Bluetooth keyboard. Fully customized with Apple media control keys, it is sure to make using the iPad even easier and more enjoyable. Also, apparently in the future everything will be more comfortable – the tablet keyboard case doubles as an iPad stand , so kick back and have fun.

Pros

  • Low-profile keyboard
  • Sleek design
  • Various keyboard shortcut buttons
  • Adjustable stand

Cons

  • Clunky carrying case
  • Adds bulk
  • Needs to be carried separately

Overview

Maybe it’s from another planet? Did it arrive here via one of those UFOs I’ve been spotting every night this week? Whatever it is, Logitech’s design of the Tablet Keyboard will definitely impress you with its black and turquoise design and multiple features.

Firstly the compact keyboard integrates the best of traditional keyboards and laptop keyboards – a definite trendsetter for a new breed of typing devices. This means you get all the special media controls for the iPad 2 and iPad 3 (play, pause, forward track, volume). Also, the keys aren’t as crunched together like other keyboards because of Logitech’s island style keys layout. Pairing the keyboard to the tablet is very easy too and I was ready to start typing right way. To test out the Bluetooth capability, I stood on the other side of the room and I was still able to control the tablet via Bluetooth.

When you're out and about, the keyboard and stand folds up into a handy carrying case that helps protect your keyboard. The two sides of the carrying case automatically attach through a small magnet, which seems like a pretty strong connection. When you are ready to use, the case converts into a pretty sturdy stand to prop up the iPad in two viewing angles.

4.0 Functionality:
High points here: I like having customized Apple media controls at my fingertips. Plus, there are extra functions added to the keyboard, like a Home button key, a lock/unlock key to wake up the iPad and a key to bring up the on-screen keyboard. There’s even a key to put the iPad into Photo Viewer mode. What I don’t like is that it takes four AAA batteries. Even if there's a battery indicator light on the keyboard so you know when it's getting low, you still have to go out and get expensive batteries. I’d prefer to pay more on an integrated rechargeable unit than throwing away four batteries every few weeks.
This particular keyboard design isn't really designed for protection, and thus gets a default score. Protection
4.0Quality:
Nothing to write home about here – pretty standard quality, which keeps the price low. The plastic design is sturdy though and has very useful rubber feet on the bottom (that help to keep the keyboard in place on sticky surfaces). There’s a plastic piece too that holds the stand together, which feels a bit cheaply made.
4.0Value:
For $79.95, Logitech have priced the keyboard pretty squarely in the middle of other tablet keyboard prices. For the quality and functionality you get here, this gives the case an excellent value. Plus, Logitech has a 3-year limited hardware warranty.
3.8Overall: Okay

Logitech’s futuristic Tablet keyboard for the iPad & iPad 2 will leave you typing away with a satisfied grin on your face. Good price, excellent keyboard and handy stand all combine for a highly functional accessory. One of the best tablet keyboards out there at the moment.
