Sure, Sherpa Carry touts the nice faux-leather hide of its iPad folio, but it’s the miracle of Velcro that makes this tablet case’s best feature. By using Velcro fasteners and a pad, this tablet case truly offers multiple viewing angles. We can’t necessarily recommend it for use in the Himalayas with actual sherpas, but video addicts will certainly be interested in this case.

Pros

  • Truly multiple viewing angles
  • Quality PU leather exterior
  • Durable stitching, gold strap ringlet

Cons

  • Odd single button fastener
  • Shoulder strap feels awkward
  • A bit bulky

Overview

The Sherpa Magnetic is definitely a case of plusses-and-minuses. At first glance in the packaging, it looks terrific if Spartanly designed. The soft faux-leather also gives a good early impression, but then the more eccentric design features come to light.

For example, the Sherpa Magnetic closes by way of a single button strap fastener near the camera cutout. After only a few uses, the case may remain a bit open on the opposite side – just enough to detract from an otherwise great-looking tablet case. (Why this asymmetry, Sherpa?) The interior is pretty standard stuff for a folio case. A faux-leather frame surrounds the bezel and holds the iPad in place quite well by way of a Velcro fastener. The interior lining offers some screen protection.

The shoulder strap feature is a bit of a minus. While the ringlets are dead secure thanks to excellent stitching and they look cool, the strap itself is disconcertingly thin – perhaps the best solution would be to just replace the strap after purchase.

Disadvantages aside, the Sherpa Magnetic provides one massive plus, particularly for the video-first user. That interior lining serves as a base for the fold-out stand , while the Velcro fastener stands the iPad up in landscape mode at nearly any angle desired. And over the long run, this Velcro seems durable enough to last.

4.0Functionality:
This tablet case is well-designed to the iPad 2 and New iPad with appropriate cutouts for easy access to ports. The shoulder strap is a nice feature (if a bit odd looking) and though the integrated stand may only be used in landscape mode, the multiple viewing angles are a wonder.
4.5Protection:
Sherpa’s iPad folio case offers the typical, reasonable protection against everyday wear and tear. The PU leather exterior can take some punishment in the way of dings and scratches. Some protection is provided within the covers of the tablet case. The Sherpa will definitely stand up to some falls, but won’t hold up to extremes.
4.5Quality:
The soft faux-leather exterior of the Sherpa folio case provides good grip-ability. Users will be happy to know that, when carrying the iPad in the Sherpa case, the shoulder strap is secured by tough ringlets and excellent stitching – in general, this one won’t fall apart easily.
4.0Value:
At a suggested retail price of about $50, this tablet folio case is consistent with the average in terms of cost. One wonders why Sherpa couldn’t have provided a slightly nicer looking shoulder strap (or a second button fastener!) at this price. On the other hand, this will be a positive bargain for the video-first viewer with its outstanding range of viewing angles.
4.3Overall: Great

Once again: the Sherpa Magnetic is all about the video-first user seeking a simple faux-leather tablet case. For these folks, this folio case has got to be among the top considerations for their iPads. Others might miss certain functionality such as pockets or the possibility of use in portrait mode.

"Quality material for less money"

on 2012 Jul, 25 by Benny Weinberg
You don’t see such high-quality leather cases for under $50. The price was the deciding factor when I ordered this Sherpa case. And, yes, the leather is every bit as good as advertised and shown on the pictures. Exquisite, luxury, top-notch, you name it.

On top of the amazing leather, the case has a removable shoulder strap, a nice pouch for the new iPad to hide in, and versatile stand functions. Treat your device to low cost luxury!
