Portfolio cases offer users the familiar design of the folio case but adds the advantage of extra pockets and storage space for small accessories, business cards and the like. Many models billed as portfolio cases actually more resemble an old-fashioned day planner which opens like a book and has a button-down strap to close it back to front. Most portfolio cases are perfectly suited for travel and business cases.

Pockets typically line the inside and are separated from the tablet screen by a divider that adds a little extra protection for the front of the device. On the inside front cover are spaces to hold cards and smaller items. Typically, portfolio tablet cases include a ringlet to hold an ink pen (or potentially the tablet’s stylus) and some even provide an accordion-like file holder as well.

Materials used in portfolio tablet cases are somewhat limited; these are usually made with leather or faux-leather, though a few models crafted from textile materials have appeared on the market.
