Probably the most unique widely-available tablet case on the market today is the smart cover. Tablet smart covers live up to the name with clever functions allowing the user to turn the device on and off automatically by closing the cover, magnets to attach the cover to tablet, and a space-saving folding stand – simply put, no other electronic device has this. For technophiles or those users who simply cannot live without their devices, tablet smart cases are an excellent choice.

Smart covers resemble a flat piece that sticks directly onto the tablet by way of magnets embedded in the material, allowing for easy and fast application and removal. The material is thin and lightweight – another plus when carrying the tablet – typically some combination of polyurethane and textile.

Added functionality in tablet smart cases is provided via evenly-placed creases inset into the cover. The cover may thereby be unfolded from the tablet into various upright positions. The inset magnets are strong enough to support the attached tablet when suspended vertically, making tablet smart covers convenient for handling tablets on all occasions.

The drawback to these products is that they offer no protection for the tablet’s backside. However, several manufacturers are now producing back protectors compatible with smart covers, while many others offer smart covers with inbuilt back protectors.
