Apple’s “iPad” Trademark Under Fire in China

Chinese court denies Apple trademark rights

A Chinese court has discarded Apple’s lawsuit against the Shenzen-based company Proview Technology. The dispute concerned Proview’s claims to the iPad trademark in China. The court approved Proview’s “iPad” trademark for use in the huge consumer product market of China since the company had registered the name iPad in 2000 (one year before the iPod).

This could possibly mean that Apple would be forced to sell the iPad under a different name in China. As Macobserver.com stated pointed out though, the most likely outcome between Apple and Proview will be a handsomely-priced licensing agreement so Apple can continue its sales in the growing Chinese market.
