Instead of competing directly with the other high-end 9-inch-plus tablets out there, Alcatel thinks it found a happy medium with the Tab 8 HD. Like its 7-inch sibling, the 8HD is running Android Jelly Bean through the same dual-core 1.6GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor.

Other feats include 8 GB of NAND flash memory, expanded via microSD, as well as a 2 megapixel rear camera, a VGA front camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. If this sounds familiar, know that Alcatel also announced the One Touch Tab 7 HD, that features almost identical specs, except for the display.

As implied by the 8 in the name, this tablet will arrive sporting an 8-inch (1024 x 768) IPS display along with a dual-core 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Other hardware specs include 8GB of internal storage space, a microSD card slot, a VGA quality front-facing camera and a 2 megapixel rear-facing camera.

Alcatel’s 8-incher looks like a crowd-pleaser in the design department, being fairly elegant and chic while weighing in at just 355 grams. For comparison, the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD has a chunkier 395 grams body, while the Nexus 7 weighs in at 340 grams while obviously sporting a smaller display.
