All right, first things first: The Walmart-branded Xelio P717A-BK 7” tablet surely shatters the mark for lowest-priced for a device of its kind with suggested retail prices starting at $59. Beyond this in terms of positives, there’s little more to add – although for one manner of use, this Xelio may be ideal.

Once the would-be owner gets past the stunning price tag, however, only those with lowest of expectations will avoid disappointment. Perhaps the sole somewhat up-to-date feature included in the Xelio 7” is the Android 4.1 operating system – though note that no future upgrades will be possible, as is typically the case in properly branded tablets.

The Xelio P717A-BK also includes some standard stuff such as WiFi connectivity, micro USB port and a micro SD card slot; this latter is in theory ideal for pumping up the miniscule 4 GB worth of internal storage in this 7” tablets. Unfortunate new lows for 2013 are set by this Xelio in terms of screen resolution (would you believe 800 x 480 pixels? What is this, an Atari game system?) and just five hours of battery life with moderate use.

And that one thing for which the Xelio P717A-BK might be useful? The front-facing camera is decent enough for video calls; with a strong wireless connection, the under-$60 7” tablet might be ideal as a cheap phone. Disposable, even.
