Clam cases enclose the front and the back of a tablet with protective casing, just like a round CD case. One of its most unique elements is the ability to transform the tablet into a laptop PC by providing an inbuilt keyboard. Its a good solution for users wishing to enjoy the benefits and convenience of both devices. Such clam cases have the technology of smart covers incorporated, thereby turning the tablet on and off automatically when opened and closed. As of this writing, laptop imitating clamcases are currently available only for Apple iPad tablets.

Tablet clam cases that include a Bluetooth-connected keyboard are billed as an “all-in-one” product, because they also feature a tablet case and stand. The exterior, made of plastic or hard nylon, adds protection while the tablet remains lightweight. As in smart cases, the clamcase is enclosed with magnets. A keyboard is embedded, and the tablet may be inset onto this, giving the tablet the look of the standard computer. The keyboard and case may also be folded underneath the iPad to provide a tablet stand for viewing in either portrait or landscape mode.
