Substrata is one company that took an entirely different path to the mobile device accessories market. They began in 2006, building trade-show displays for local Portland Oregon window companies. In 2007, Substrata started building custom cabinets and furniture. 2009 saw the release of the brand's first, highly-touted wood case for the iPhone. In 2010, they introduced Substrata cases to the tablet case market, which were also met with similar acclaim and media hype exposure.
The brand currently offers 6 Substrata iPad cases, in three different styles: Tabletop, Open and Artisan. Choice solutions are a mix of basic hard cases, folio cases and sleeve-like designs. They range in price from $95 to $225. Incorporated genuine materials include some leathers and a variety of wood types, such as: Birch, walnut, cherry, and maple. These handmade cases generally ship within 3-5 weeks.
The market is full of genuine wood tablet case designers, and if anything, exquisite Substrata cases will make the decision process even more difficult. Not to discredit those other skilled artisans, but the Apple users who buy Substrata tablet cases will most certainly be glad they chose this brand.
