Huge Stocks of RIM’s PlayBook Remain in Warehouses

PlayBook tablets pile up in warehouses

Research In Motion is devaluing its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet inventory by $485 million. The devaluing will be taken as a charge against pre-tax profits for the third quarter. The PlayBook is “the worst and most costly decision by RIM,” according to the Guardian, which may affect its wider reputation in mobile communications.

The tablet started off at roughly the same price as Apple iPad , but a huge price reduction to $199 is expected in order to start moving the tablet from the storeroom to the living room. When the 7-inch PlayBook hit the market in April, many thought the tablet was rushed into manufacturing, showing poor software and no email platform.
